• Commissioned by the University of Utah, a class of fifteen took on the task of building a shade structure the campus library needed. We all had an important part in designing, presenting to various officials from the University, and constructing the final product. The design was derived by creating an enclosure that would give students a break from the sun. We were able to incorporate photovoltaic panels into the design for the students to charge their phones, iPads or other electronic devices. The entire design was done in Rhino with many models to help us get a sense of scale needed for students. The boards were then cut on a CNC machine and fabricated on site. We, as a team, invested a lot of time into branding and how this could be educational for students to see how PV panels work while staying cool through the summer.
